How it works
Each scheme has its own rules, but the steps are the same for you:
- Call us on TBC or book online, and tell us which scheme you are with
- Bring the details listed below for your scheme to your first visit
- We assess your injury and explain what we find and what we suggest, then you decide
- We send the scheme our invoices and the plans and reports it asks for
There is no gap fee. We bill WorkSafe, TAC or DVA directly for the care they cover. Cover is for chiropractic care for your accepted claim or eligible condition, and if anything falls outside that, we explain the cost before we start. There is no deposit for these patients.
WorkSafe and WorkCover
WorkSafe is Victoria's workers compensation scheme, and many people still call it WorkCover. If you have an accepted claim for a work-related injury or illness, WorkSafe can pay the reasonable cost of your chiropractic care. You do not need a referral or prior approval from WorkSafe to start.
What to bring
- Your claim number
- The name of your WorkSafe agent and your case manager's contact details, if you know them
- The date of your injury and your employer's name
- Your latest certificate of capacity, if you have one
- Any scans or reports you have
Your first certificate of capacity comes from a medical practitioner. After that, we can issue a certificate if your injury affects your capacity for work.
TAC
The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) can help pay for care for injuries from a transport accident in Victoria, such as a car or motorbike accident. In the first 90 days after your accident, you do not have to contact the TAC for approval if:
- You have a TAC claim number
- Your doctor or another health professional recommends your care
- The care is for your accident injuries
Please contact the TAC for approval if it is close to or more than 90 days since your accident and more treatment has not already been approved, or if it has been more than six months since the TAC paid for any of your treatment. If we are continuing your care past 90 days, we send the TAC your treatment plan.
What to bring
- Your TAC claim number, found on your claim acceptance letter or in the myTAC app
- The date of your accident
- Any approval from the TAC, if it is close to or more than 90 days since your accident
- Any scans or reports you have
DVA and Veteran Cards
The Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) covers clinically necessary chiropractic care for Veteran Card holders. DVA pays us directly, and you are not asked to pay a gap fee.
- All Conditions Veteran Card (the Gold Card): covers all conditions
- Specific Conditions Veteran Card (the White Card): covers your accepted service-related conditions
- Pharmaceuticals Only Veteran Card: does not include chiropractic care
DVA asks for a referral from your usual GP. For your first treatment cycle, it can also come from a medical specialist, your treating hospital doctor or a hospital discharge planner. A referral lasts for up to 12 sessions or one year, whichever ends first. Your GP can then refer you again, as often as they find it clinically necessary.
What to bring
- Your Veteran Card, either the physical card or the digital card in the myGov app or MyService
- Your referral
- If you have a Specific Conditions card, your listed conditions open in MyService or written confirmation from DVA
- The name of any other chiropractor you have seen in the last 12 months
- Any scans or reports you have
How we care for you
Your care follows the same five steps, whichever scheme you are with. See your first visit for what to expect on the day.
Assess
We hear how your injury happened and what you want to get back to, then assess how you move and screen thoroughly so nothing is missed.
Explain
What we found, what we suggest and how long it should take. Then you decide.
Treat
Gentle, hands-on care chosen for your injury. We explain each step and ask before we start.
Move
Exercises and practical advice for work, driving and home, with functional rehabilitation where it suits your plan.
Review
We check your progress against your goals, work alongside your GP, and keep your scheme updated with the plans and reports it asks for.
Seeing someone else for the same injury? Please tell us. WorkSafe and DVA pay for one type of physical treatment at a time for the same injury or condition, and TAC does not usually recommend different treatments at the same time, so we plan your care around what your scheme covers.
Questions about WorkSafe, TAC and DVA
Do you accept WorkSafe, WorkCover, TAC and DVA?
Yes. We see patients with an accepted WorkSafe (WorkCover) or TAC claim, and patients with an All Conditions or Specific Conditions Veteran Card from DVA.
Is there a gap fee?
No. There is no gap fee for WorkSafe, TAC or DVA patients. We bill the scheme directly for the care it covers, and we explain any cost outside that cover before we start.
Do I need a referral?
It depends on the scheme. WorkSafe does not ask for a referral. TAC asks that your doctor or another health professional recommends your care. DVA asks for a referral from your usual GP.
What do I bring to my first visit?
For WorkSafe, bring your claim number and your agent's details. For TAC, bring your TAC claim number. For DVA, bring your Veteran Card and your referral. Please also bring any scans or reports you have.
What if my claim has not been accepted yet?
Call us on TBC before you book. WorkSafe and TAC pay for care on an accepted claim, so we will talk through your options first.
Can I see you and another practitioner for the same injury?
Please tell us if you are. WorkSafe and DVA pay for one type of physical treatment at a time for the same injury or condition, and TAC does not usually recommend different treatments at the same time. We plan your care around what your scheme covers.
Can you issue a WorkSafe certificate of capacity?
Yes, after your first one. Your first certificate of capacity comes from a medical practitioner. After that, we can issue a certificate if your work-related injury affects your capacity for work.
